開催概要
今回、4回目を迎える長崎大学・ロンドン大学LSHTMジョイントシンポジウムは、さきがけ事業「パンデミックに対してレジリエントな社会・技術基盤の構築（研究統括：東北大学 押谷仁教授）」との合同開催です。新進気鋭の若手研究者や院生が国境を越えて長崎へ集結し、経験豊富なグローバルヘルスエキスパートや日本企業との異分野を越えた白熱議論を通じて、世界を動かす科学技術イノベーションの創出を目指します。
背景
長崎大学-ロンドン大学衛生・熱帯医学大学院(LSHTM)戦略的パートナーシップは、2014年3月片峰茂(前)長崎大学学長、ピーターピオットLSHTM(前)大学院長らのリーダーシップのもとロンドンで開催された長崎大学マーケットプレイスで宣言され、以降、両大学からの教員派遣・交流、教育資材や教育プログラムの共有と共同開発、日英を基軸とする多国籍共同研究を推進してきました。本パートナーシップは、国立大学法人大学院機能強化費や卓越大学院プログラム、ビルゲイツ財団などの巨額外部資金の獲得に貢献し、2015年熱帯医学・グローバルヘルス研究科(TMGH)、2017年国立国際医療研究センターTMGHキャンパスや2018年ジョイントPhDプログラムの設置を可能とする基礎を築きました。
2021年に実施された両大学の中間評価を経て、今回のシンポジウムには、LSHTM(現)大学院長リアムスミース教授らのリーダーシップのもと拡大された長崎大学とのパートナーシップ運営委員会のメンバー5名と卓越大学院プログラムアドバイザー2名が参加しています。複雑かつ激しく揺れ動く世界のニーズに応えるべく、本パートナーシップには、さらに強固な組織として進化し続けることが求められており、シンポジウムの後には、河野茂長崎大学学長が推進するプラネタリーヘルスの協働活動についても、長崎大学の全研究科長らと話し合う予定です。
主催者挨拶
どんなに卓越した研究成果も、それだけでは地球上に暮らす人々の健康増進につながりません。社会をより良い方向へ動かすには、ひととひと、組織と組織の実質的な協働が不可欠であり、それこそが、グローバルヘルスを推進する“力”になります。
コロナ禍を経て、私たちは、ひととひとのつながりを深めるためにも、対面で会うことの意義を再認識しました。だからこそ、再び長崎に集まります。
今回のシンポジウムは、パンデミックにレジリエントな社会を目指すさきがけ事業とも連携し、グローバルヘルスの目標である“誰ひとり取り残されることない公正な健康”、そして、それをさらに進化させ、“50年・100年後の地球市民の持続可能な健康”を目指すプラネタリーヘルスの実現に向けて、わたしたちにできることは何か、国やセクター、専門領域を越えて、つながり、共に考え、行動に結び付けるためのシンポジウムです。
